The Starting Point

Image description: Planning meetingOn 12 June 2018, Valued Lives Foundation, in partnership with; People with Disabilities WA,
WA Individualised Services, Consumers of Mental Health WA, Connect Groups, JFA Purple Orange, The Growing Space, Down Syndrome WA and Developmental Disability WA, hosted the WA Peer Connect Conference in Perth.

The NDIA Sector Development Fund sponsored this event and the Conference gave people with disabilities and their family members/carers the opportunity to:

  • Network and connect with local Peer Networks.
  • Feel more confident and knowledgeable about the NDIS.
  • Have their questions answered about NDIS planning, how to choose a service and how the funding processes work.
  • Have a say about what they want from Peer Networks.

Following the conference, plans were in place to conduct a review of the current Valued Lives Peer Network Operational Framework.  Kate Fulton was engaged by Valued Lives to facilitate three sessions to review the current Peer Network Operational Framework – originally co-designed in 2013 – with peer network participants, people with disability and their families.

Review meetings were held in Applecross, Bunbury and Midland throughout October which provided an opportunity for people to come together in small groups to discuss key areas of the existing Framework, ensuring that it remains relevant and reflects the needs of individuals and families as we move into the NDIS roll out across WA.

The co-design of the Operational Framework will result in a final product that will support and guide the work of the Peer-to-Peer Networks WA project into the future with further updates on its progress shared on this website.
